Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy involves restoring and maintaining functional movement, reducing pain, and promoting health. Through the use of manual therapy, exercise prescription, and adjunctive therapies (i.e. acupuncture, ultrasound, shockwave therapy, TENS), physiotherapy helps to reduce pain while promoting mobility, function, and well-being.
Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized branch of orthopaedic physiotherapy that focuses on the assessment and treatment of conditions and dysfunctions of the pelvic floor.
The pelvic floor consists of muscles, connective tissue, joints, nerves, and ligaments. Their architectural design creates a bowl or basin at the bottom of the pelvis and functions to support the organs of the abdomen, stabilize the pelvis and hip joint, and maintain urinary continence and sexual function.
Pelvic floor dysfunctions occur when these muscles weaken, become lax, or tighten, preventing the muscles from completing their normal functions. Dysfunctions of the pelvic floor could lead to symptoms such as pain in your lower back, hips or pelvis, pelvic pressure or heaviness, constipation, incontinence, and pain with intercourse.
Pelvic health physiotherapy addresses these dysfunctions and symptoms by retraining the structures of the pelvic floor in order to improve their function and strength.
Chiropractic
Chiropractors are specialists in the manual adjustment of the vertebrae of the spine and other joints. Adjustment helps relieve pain and restore normal functioning to the spine, joints, and supporting structures of the body, allowing you to enjoy your everyday activities again as quickly as possible. Chiropractors are also trained to prescribe therapeutic exercise, provide nutritional counselling, and recommend rehabilitation and injury prevention strategies.
Psychotherapy / Psychology / Counselling
Psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach that involves a trained mental health professional working with an individual, couple, family, or group to help them understand and address emotional, behavioural, and psychological issues. The primary goal of psychotherapy is to improve a person's mental and emotional wellbeing, enhance their coping skills, and promote positive changes in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
At the Adelaide Health Clinic, our psychotherapist can help with feelings of depression, low self-esteem, addiction, and grief, among many others. If you are struggling, please reach out and let us help.
Athletic Therapy
Athletic therapy focuses on the effective treatment of musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries using a mix of on-site care, injury assessment, and active rehabilitation. Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from professional athletes to the weekend warrior, using various manual therapies, modalities, postural/biomechanical correction, exercise prescription, bracing, and taping.
The treatments may vary but the objective doesn’t: An athletic therapist's goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or continuing activities of daily living.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy consists of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and joints for the purpose of optimizing health. Massage has a therapeutic effect on improving circulation, mobility, reducing muscle tension, and increasing relaxation.
Overall patient function can be developed, maintained, and improved; and physical dysfunction, pain, and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of massage therapy.
Pedorthist
A Pedorthist is a orthopaedic footwear and foot orthotic expert. They are one of the few healthcare professionals trained in biomechanical assessment of the lower anatomy and muscle / joint function. Our Pedorthist Peter Charbonneau combines his Athletic Therapy and Pedorthic knowledge to treat and counsel people with debilitating conditions of the lower limbs and feet. To book an orthotic assessment, please contact our office at 416-367-5200.
Custom Knee Bracing
Custom bracing involves the design and fabrication of specialized orthopedic devices that provide support, stability, and protection for various joints and body parts. These braces are used in sports medicine and rehabilitation to address a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, providing benefits such as stabilization, injury prevention, post-injury support, rehabilitation aid, pain relief, and performance enhancement.
Our team of practitioners at the Adelaide Health Clinic create individually tailored braces designed for each patient's specific needs.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), also known as Oriental medicine, is a medical system that has been used for thousands of years to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease. It is based on the belief that qi (the body's vital energy) flows along meridians (channels) in the body and keeps a person’s spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health in balance.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is based on theories about qi - a vital energy - which is said to flow along channels called meridians and help the body to maintain health. In acupuncture, needles puncture the skin to tap into any of the hundreds of points on the meridians where the flow of qi can be redirected to restore health.
ActivArmor Casting
The Adelaide Health Clinic uses the ActivArmor system to create custom casts and splints. This system uses (3D) 3-dimensional mapping of the injured limb to create the exact fit for the patient. Each cast is custom fabricated using a high temperature thermosetting plastic yielding the strong and unique ActivArmor immobilization device.
Sonic Wave Therapy
EMTT with Focused Shockwave Therapy FSWT
Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) is often used in conjunction with Focused shockwave therapy (FSWT), a modality that uses acoustic waves to regenerate tissue and accelerate healing, and to optimize treatment outcomes.
EMTT is capable of providing immediate pain relief, reducing inflammation and swelling, and improving the body's natural healing process, while FSWT can effectively promote blood flow. By combining these two therapies, patients can experience quicker recovery times, decreased medication use, and improved quality of life.
Which Conditions does EMTT/FSWT Typically Treat?
Patients currently suffering from osteoarthritis, chronic pain of the back, hip calves, joint and tendon inflammation, or pain from bone stress fractures and non-union fractures.
